The spirit of Frida

The Mexican painter Frida Kahlo got terribly injured at a young age and knew pain ever since. Her creativity seemed to be triggered by the troubled and turbulant life she led.
From her bed, Frida created another world through her paintings.
Nothing could stop Frida. Her physical state could never pin her down and neither could her husband or Mexican society. In a situation where any other person would have given up, Kahlo expressed herself through her paintings and lifestyle in a timeless way.
To Raghuraman, Frida represents strength, courage  and boundlessness of the human spirit. She defied all the rules and became an icon of freedom and female emancipation in a Mexican context. Today, Frida Kahlo represents strong women in South America and the world. She holds a major place in the list of strong and truly free women, and continues to inspire the women of today. In this solo, Kalpana Raghuraman, shares the undefinable spirit of Frida Kahlo.
